Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Our Partnership with Cleaning For A Reason

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for 31 days the whole world seems to turn pink. Merchandise sold at sporting events gets a pink makeover, clothing stores sell pink items, grocery stores have pink packaging for hundreds of products.

Everything pink then gives back to cancer awareness societies like Susan G. Komen. Famous buildings, such as Tokyo Tower, the Empire State Building, and others around the globe, will light up pink to spread awareness. Today, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States.

Knowing the symptoms is a step in the right direction, but it’s also important that women conduct routine self-examinations and schedule regular screenings with their doctors. These actions are of vital importance to help prevent and fight against breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society is on a mission to show people how they can contribute— not just financially, but by giving time and donating services.

Helping Hands Cleaning Services Joins Forces With Cleaning For A Reason

Helping Hands Cleaning Service is delighted to partner with Cleaning For A Reason, a nonprofit organization that provides free home cleaning services to women who are going through cancer treatments. Helping Hands Cleaning Services has donated more than 450 cleanings over the years through this nonprofit. Our team is committed to donating four hours of cleaning services per month for four months for a woman undergoing cancer treatments.

Cleaning For A Reason was started by Debbie Sardone. She owns a cleaning company and, after being informed that a prospective client would no longer be able to afford the cleanings because she was undergoing cancer treatment, Debbie decided there was something she could do to help. From that day forward, she developed a new company policy: Anyone undergoing cancer treatment would get free housecleaning service.

Soon, word of the mission spread— and so did the free house cleaning for women going through cancer treatments. Soon, over 1200 cleaning companies had joined the movement; they’re proud to announce that more than $10,000,000 worth of cleaning has been donated to women fighting to defeat breast cancer.

Cleaning For A Reason Improves Lives

The testimonials of those who received cleanings from one of the many partners in the many states participating in Cleaning For A Reason show how important this service is to those women who are in the fight for their lives.

Eileen, from California, says, “I had a mastectomy, and I can’t do much with my right arm. I also get sick with chemotherapy. Just having someone clean my bathrooms and scrub the kitchen and dining room tile floors is a blessing. This is a wonderful service and I’m so glad I found it. Thank you so much for your service. It’s amazing.”

Patients who have experienced the pleasure of working with Cleaning For a Reason partners can tell you the relief they feel when the cleaning is finished. Knowing they don’t have to worry about the cleanliness of their home brings them a great deal of comfort at a very scary and stressful time.

Imagine that you’re undergoing cancer treatment. You’re fortunate to have friends and family who want to spend time with you during your recovery, but when you look around your less-than-pristine home, you feel nothing but stress. Your home isn’t nearly as clean as it normally is— you just don’t have the energy to clean, especially not to your usual standards.

With Cleaning For a Reason, these women can rest easy knowing their home will be a place where they can recover in peace as they focus on the much more important task at hand.

Why Cleaning Professionals Are So Passionate About Helping Others

You’ll find those who work with Cleaning For A Reason providing the cleaning services also find great satisfaction in knowing they are making a painful situation a little bit more bearable for someone else. Renae from Eerie says, “For me to give them just a little bit of happiness, makes me happy.”

Helping Hands is proud to give back to our community, in and around Chicagoland by ensuring that those who are fighting for their lives are not fighting alone. We want the women in our community to feel safe and secure and know they are in a healthy environment while they are recovering from treatments.
